Students will meet their Role Model Volunteer and be able to:
• understand the purpose of The Role Model Program
• understand the concept of a Role Model
• learn characteristics associated with positive Role Models, and
• identify a Role Model in their own life.
Students will be able to
• understand the special skills and talents that make them individually unique,
• understand that knowing their values can lead them to their personal best, and
• understand that knowing oneself is the basis for positive decision-making and begins the career exploration process.
Students will be able to
• understand how to make a good decision,
• understand that the decisions they make influence their life path, and
• identify the consequences and risks that go into making a decision.
Students will be able to
• define the concept of a goal,
• describe the relationship between goals and decision making,
• understand the difference between short and long-term goals and identify examples of each,
• identify a dream they have for their lives, understand they can achieve anything with education and positive life choices, and
• understand that setting goals is the process for fulfilling their dreams.
Students will be able to
• develop a career interest based on their skills and talents, and
• understand the difference between a job and a career.
Students will be able to
• understand that middle school and high school are the first steps to attending college,
• understand that college is an option for everyone in life, and
• explore the relationship between education, goals and successful futures.
Students will be able to
• learn key aspects of applying to college,
• learn what they can do to improve their chances of getting into college,
• learn what a college looks for in a prospective student,
• become familiar with a college application, and
• learn about scholarship and grant opportunities.
Students will be able to
• pull together the objectives, goals and learning of The Role Model Program, and
• create a planning tool for the future.
